The Week Before Thanksgiving: Letβs Talk About Your Poor Pipes
It is officially the week before Thanksgiving and if you are anything like me you are already juggling grocery lists kids schedules cleaning and trying to remember if you even own a roasting pan. Meanwhile your plumbing system is in the corner quietly sweating because this is the busiest week of the entire year for your pipes.
Thanksgiving is the moment when every sink every toilet and every hot water heater gets thrown into the spotlight whether they are ready or not. More guests more cooking more dishes more hand washing more flushing. It is a lot friend. But this is exactly why Joe and I are here. We live here and we work here and we are ready to help your home survive the holiday chaos.
π Why Thanksgiving Week Is So Tough On Your Plumbing
Here is the honest truth. This week is the Super Bowl for plumbing and most homes are not trained for it. The biggest issues we see right before and right after Thanksgiving are the same every single year.
Clogged kitchen drains from grease oils and food scraps
Garbage disposals jammed from potato peels eggshells and everything people try to force down there
Toilets clogging because there are simply more people using them
Hot water running out faster because everyone is showering
Sewer lines backing up which is every homeowners nightmare
If something has been struggling for a while it usually chooses Thanksgiving week to reveal its issues.
π³ Kitchen Tips To Keep Your Sink Happy
Your kitchen is about to do the heavy lifting. This is where we see the most emergencies so here are the things to keep out of your sink no matter how confident your garbage disposal thinks it is.
Grease
Oil
Butter
Turkey drippings
Potato peels
Eggshells
Bones
Coffee grounds
Pour your grease into a jar or can and toss it after it cools. Your drains will thank you and so will your wallet.
π½ Bathroom Tips Before Guests Take Over
I say this with love. The toilet is not a trash can. Please remind guests and kids that only toilet paper and the stuff your body makes should be flushed. That is it.
Everything else should go in the trash including wipes cotton rounds feminine products floss and anything that claims to be flushable.
If you have guests staying with you try to space out showers so your hot water heater gets a chance to recover. Nothing ruins Thanksgiving faster than someone taking a cold shower and announcing it to the whole house.
π₯ Check Your Water Heater Before Thursday
If your water heater is older makes noise or seems slower than usual this is the week to take it seriously. Thanksgiving morning is the worst time to find out it is struggling.
If you want peace of mind we can take a quick look and make sure you are ready for company and cooking.
